A Quick Guide to Blackstone’s Recycling and Trash Program

Curbside recycling is mandatory in the Town of Blackstone. Recycling materials must be placed in official recycling bins only:

• All recycling should be placed in the toter provided by Republic Services. Other bins or toters will not be picked up. Extra recycling can be brought to the recycling center free of charge.

• Trash must be in the toter provided by Republic Services. Other trash bins will not be picked up. All trash must be in the barrel. Extra trash can be brought the recycle center $3 a bag.

• On your scheduled trash day toters must be placed on the curb 3 feet apart by 7am.

• Covers on toters must be completely shut or they will not be picked up.

Accepted Materials & How to Prepare Them

Paper & Cardboard

• Includes office paper, folders, newspapers, catalogs, junk mail, etc.

• Must be clean and dry

• Flatten to 2 ft. x 2 ft. or smaller — do not tie with rope or string

Metal (Aluminum, Tin, Steel)

• Rinse clean to avoid odors and pests

• Labels are okay

• Includes pie plates and foil

Plastic

• Plastic containers and bottles only

• Must be clean and dry, with caps left on

• Do not flatten

Glass

• Rinse clean

• Labels are okay

• Bottles and jars only — no mirrors, pyrex, or light bulbs

Not Accepted in Recycling Bins

• Plastic grocery bags

• Styrofoam

• Electronics

• Food-soiled items

• Yard waste

• Batteries

• Ceramics or dishes

• Clothing

• Construction debris

• Hazardous material containers (oil, antifreeze, etc.)

Weekly Trash Collection Guidelines

• Trash and recycling must be at the curb by 7:00 AM on the scheduled day.

• Limit: 96-gallon toter provided by Republic Services

• No bulky or oversized items at the curb — bring them to the Recycling Center

• 50 lb. max per bag/barrel

• Holiday weeks: Collection is delayed by one day

Important: Do not use plastic bags inside or outside of recycling bins.

Sharps Disposal Program

Blackstone residents may use Republic Services’ Mail-Back Program for safe disposal of needles and medical sharps.
