Overview

About

The Board of Selectmen functions as the Chief Executive body of the Town and holds the Town's executive powers as granted by state general laws and the Town of Blackstone bylaws. Its five members are elected to serve staggered three-year terms with one or two seats up for election each year. The Board acts as the chief policy-making body of the Town and directly supervises the activities of the Town Administrator. The Town Administrator is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operation of all town departments falling under the direct control of the Board of Selectmen.

The Board of Selectmen makes key financial decisions and presents recommended actions to voters at the Annual Town Meeting and Special Town Meeting. The Selectmen are responsible for establishing the warrant (agenda) for all Town Meetings, and for making appointments of town employees and members of appointed Board and Committees.

Meetings

The Board of Selectmen typically meets biweekly on Tuesday evenings at approximately 6:30 pm, although meeting dates and times can occasionally vary. Meetings are held in the John Eldridge Meeting Room on the second floor at Town Hall, and sometimes on Zoom. Links and access codes for Zoom (if applicable) can be found on each meeting agenda.

Meetings are also broadcast live on your cable public access station. Comcast subscribers can view the meeting live on Channel 8. The meetings can also be streamed live online or viewed post-meetings by accessing our Government on Demand website.
