Overview

What is the Planning Board?

The Blackstone Planning Board is responsible for numerous matters related to community planning, development, and land use. Its (5) members are elected to serve staggered 5-year terms with (1) seat up for election each year. The Board conducts studies on land use, including development, housing, transportation, economic development, and zoning under both Massachusetts General Law (Chapters 40A and 41) as well as local Town by-laws.

Responsibilities

The Planning Board's primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administering Special Permits for matters such as subdivisions, accessory apartments, and more.
  • Reviewing and endorsing Approval Not Required (ANR) plans that do not show a subdivision.
  • Serving as the Site Plan review board for development proposals in the business, manufacturing, and medical/professional zones.
  • Reviewing and proposing amendments to the Town of Blackstone Zoning Bylaws.
  • Writing and updating the Blackstone Master Plan.

Meetings

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month at 7 PM at the Blackstone Municipal Center. Meetings, dates, times, and locations are subject to change. The Meeting Calendar can be found in the left-side menu.
