Sewer systems are only designed to handle very specific items, Attempting to flush anything else can lead to expensive waste blockages. Products marked as "flushable" can wind up clogging pipes and pumps. When in doubt, throw it out.
What to flush:
Toilet paper
Human Waste
Water
What NOT to flush:
Flushable wipes
Feminine hygiene products
Diapers
Tissues
Paper Towels
Food Items
Any cloth item
Any pills (medicines/vitamins)
Cotton swabs/Q-tips
Cigarettes
Cat litter
Additionally, fats, oils and grease (FOG) which come from common food and cooking waste should not be disposed of via your household drain. Over time this can cause build-up, and eventually block the piping leading to possible sewerage overflow.
This advisory applies to all homes, whether they are served by the Town or private sewer systems.
