DPW crews remain out continuing post-storm cleanup efforts across Town. This work includes widening roadways, improving sight lines at intersections and curves, and opening storm drains to reduce ponding and refreezing.
Crews have put in long hours over multiple days to complete cleanup and restore full roadway width and visibility. The Town appreciates their continued effort to finish the job after the storm has passed.
We recognize that it can be frustrating when road widening work pushes snow back into driveway openings after residents have already cleared them. Unfortunately, the Town is not equipped to return and clear individual driveways after road widening operations. This work is necessary to restore safe travel lanes, improve visibility, and maintain drainage along Town roads.
Residents are reminded not to place snow back into the roadway after clearing driveways or walkways. Pushing or throwing snow into the street creates safety hazards, limits visibility, and can cause additional issues for plow operations and drainage.
Residents are also encouraged to clear snow around any fire hydrant located near their home. Keeping hydrants visible and accessible can make a critical difference in an emergency response.
Please note that Section 157-43(C) of the Code of the Town of Blackstone states:
No person, other than an employee in the service of the Town of Blackstone, or an employee in the service of an independent contractor acting for the Town of Blackstone, shall throw, pile, push or plow snow or ice onto a Town layout, including but not limited to a street, roadway, lane, byway or sidewalk so as to impede the flow of traffic on such ways.
Whoever violates this section shall bear the cost of cleanup and shall be punished by warning on the first offense; not more than $50 on the second offense; and not more than $100 for any subsequent offenses. Such provisions are enforceable by the Blackstone Police Department under MGL c.40A §21D.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as cleanup work continues throughout Town.
