The Blackstone Water Department will be conducting water main flushing throughout the town in April.
Water main flushing systematically moves water through sections of the drinking water distribution system at increased flow rates, creating a scouring action that cleans the inner walls of the pipes. This process helps remove naturally occurring debris and sediment buildup, which is then discharged through select fire hydrants.
Flushing Schedule:
Flushing will take place on April 1, 2, 3, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, and 24 (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Important Information for Residents:
- Water main flushing may cause temporary water discoloration and reduced water pressure.
- If your water appears discolored, run the cold-water tap until it clears. Discoloration typically resolves within four to five hours.
- Before using water for laundry or other household tasks, check for discoloration.
- If rust stains appear on clothing or fixtures, an iron-removing detergent is available free of charge from the DPW office on Elm Street.
- Do not use bleach on stained clothing, as it will set the stain permanently.
