On Wednesday, January 22nd, the Department of Public Works will be making EMERGENCY repairs to the water main on Prospect Street. Residents may want to seek an alternate route.
During this time, residents in the affected area may experience low water pressure or a complete loss of water service. The Department of Public Works staff will make every effort to expedite the repairs to minimize the water disruption. Residents are advised to store water in advance for their anticipated needs during the repair work.
Turning off the water main can sometimes stir up existing sediment in the water lines. As a result, all customers should be aware that this may cause temporary water discoloration throughout the system. If you experience discolored water, simply run the cold-water tap. The discoloration is temporary and will clear up shortly.
Residents should check the water before use, particularly before doing laundry. If rust stains appear on clothing or fixtures, an iron-removing detergent is available free of charge at the Department of Public Works office on Elm Street. DO NOT bleach stained clothing, as this will set the stain permanently.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this necessary repair work. If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Public Works at 508-883-9331.
