Public Notice

Blackstone Water Department – Notice to our Customers:

Our water system violated monitoring and reporting requirements of the drinking water regulations. Even though this was not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we did to correct this situation. We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific man-made and naturally occurring contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether our drinking water meets health standards.

During the 10/1/2023- 12/31/2023 monitoring period we did not test for our quarterly PFAS6 samples at Raw Water -Well 06G and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of our drinking water at Well 06G during that time.  We have tested on time since this event, and we will continue to collect samples for all contaminants according to our most recent sampling schedule. Please note the finished water result (MULT 6) which is a blend of wells including RW-06G was tested during this monitoring period and was below the Maximum Contaminant Level.

Explanation

We were required to take a PFAS6 sample at Well #6 each quarter in 2023.  We sampled Well #6 for PFAS6 in January, April, July and September.  We did four samples in 2023, however, we did not take a sample between October and December at Well #6.  Mass DEP considers this a violation of monitoring and reporting requirements of the drinking water regulations.

PFAS6 samples were taken at the Water Treatment Facility each month in 2023.  The sample from the WTF is all wells blended.  The results from the WTF range between 2.93-6.86 parts per billion in 2023.  The Mass DEP maximum contaminate level is 20 ppb.  Therefore, the finished water going into the distribution system was well below DEP's MCL.

We have tested on time since this event and will continue to collect samples for all contaminants according to our sampling schedule.

Water Treatment Facility         Monthly
