Guidelines for open burning
Burning season runs from January 15, 2015 to May 1, 2015 inclusive.
Burning will consist of brush only. No grass, leaves, hay, rubbish, construction materials, or any other materials.
Must be 75 feet away from any dwelling.
The fire must be attended at all times.
A garden hose or equivalent must be at the burning site during all burning.
Burning will not be permitted until after 10:00 a.m. each day.
All burning will be extinguished by 4:00 p.m. each day. Any burning after hours that the Fire Department has to respond to will be billed for the cost of the call.
Residents are warned that illegal burning is a violation of state law and is punishable under the D.E.P. and State Fire Marshall’s Office.
Residents who wish to burn must report to station 1 on St. Paul Street to pick up the guidelines for open burning and obtain a number. This burning permit number will be good for the duration of the burning season. Each day you wish to burn you will have to call in and give your permit number (876-5149).
No burning will be allowed on “red flag” days announced on local weather reports.
*** If you are found in violation of these guidelines, your right to burn will be terminated.
